Review: Subtech Dryskin, a Perfect Tool for Summer!

Well friends, it’s that time of year again: beach season. All the free trial gym memberships have been exhausted, sales on sun-tan lotion have skyrocketed, and the half priced bikinis have been ripped from the shelves in this yearly celebration of the approaching summer. But chances are, you may be missing out on a key tool for your looming vacation. I’m sure by now you’ve already got your hotel booked, beach towels set aside, and you’ve even cleaned out the cooler that had some creature living in it over the winter. You think you’ve covered all the usual bases, but what about the most annoying aspect of beach-going that you’ve never been able to avoid?

If there is anything in your daily arsenal that is constantly at risk, it’s your cell phone. A device capable of so much and yet, it’s so fragile. One of the most damaging things you can possibly go through is not just sand getting into the nooks and crannies of your phone, but water as well. Nowadays there’s almost nothing you can do to protect your phone besides keeping it in a sandwich bag and hope for the best. There are hundreds of different protective covers, but only one that can actually protect your device from the looming threat of destruction.

This is my phone next to a container of water:

And this is my phone…IN the container of water:

And this is how:

It’s not an illusion, trick of photography, or even a product of Photoshop. Subtech specializes in protecting film equipment and other devices used by extreme sports enthusiasts from all the intense weathering that such things can come up against. Want to film yourself surfing FROM your surfboard? No problem. Want to climb K2 but fear dropping your hand-held camera in the snow? Fear not. And we, the non-adrenaline seekers, have not to fear either, simply from utilizing their technology.

The Dry-skin literally fits onto your mobile device like a layer of skin, protecting it from the elements without hindering your ability to use it as you please. If you plan on using it in the shower (I don’t judge) there’s a handy little sticker that will tell you if there is any water getting in.

Apply the sealing sticker to finish it up, and you’re officially protected.

Water, sand, snow, you name it. Each protective skin can be used up to three times and the package comes with six sealing stickers for multiple uses. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that when I say the whole thing is sealed, I mean SEALED. No headphone jack, so you’re best bet is to get your hands on some blu-tooth headphones if you want to jam on the beach. Also make sure you get a good charge in before wrapping up your device, as you won’t be able to access the charging port either.

But honestly if you think either of those are a pain, keep in mind the alternative which is a bloody phone full of sand!
